Below you’ll find general details about travel and transportation, and random bits about the resort
Getting there
Traveling by plane
Bienvenidos! You’ve just landed at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (IATA: PVR), officially known as Licenciado Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport —where the air is warm, the vibe is easy, and the ocean’s never far away. Whether this is your first visit or your long-awaited return, you’re officially on vacation time the moment your plane touches down.
Late May Weather? Bring the Sunscreen (and Maybe an Umbrella!)
In late May, Puerto Vallarta is warm, tropical, and starting to flirt with rainy season. Expect daytime highs in the mid-to-high 80s°F (around 30°C), with plenty of sunshine and the occasional dramatic afternoon shower. Pack light, breathable clothing—and don’t forget a swimsuit and sandals! Oh yeah, and it’s HUMID.
Customs & Immigration: After you deplane, you’ll breeze through immigration, pick up your bags, and go through customs. You might get the famous red or green light (a fun little game of chance)—green means go, red means your bags get a quick peek.
The "Shark Tank": As you exit customs, you’ll pass through a room full of friendly (but persistent) folks offering “transportation” or “tourist information.” They’re actually trying to sell timeshares. A polite “no, gracias” will get you through quickly.
Cash & Connectivity: There are ATMs and currency exchange booths at the airport, but you’ll usually get better rates in town. Free Wi-Fi is available, but it can be spotty—download your directions, reservations, or playlists before landing, just in case.
Restrooms & Refreshments: Clean bathrooms and a few snack options are available after baggage claim, but the real culinary delights await at the resort. Still, if you’re parched, grab a cold bottle of water for the road.
Traveling to the destination
Touch down in sunny Puerto Vallarta and let your vacation officially begin! The Grand Palladium Vallarta Resort & Spa is just a scenic 40–60 minute drive away from the airport—close enough to keep the travel stress-free, but far enough to feel like you’ve truly escaped.
So, how do you get from the runway to your beachside cabana?
You’ve got a few fun options:
Taxi Time: Stroll out of the airport and hop into an official taxi—no reservations needed! It’s about a 50-minute ride, and you’ll be sipping a welcome drink at the resort before you know it.
Private Transfer Magic: Prefer a more VIP vibe? Book a private transfer in advance and ride in comfort while soaking in jungle views and coastal glimpses. It’s door-to-door and hassle-free.
Shuttle Shuffle: Budget-friendly shared shuttles are also available, perfect if you’re feeling social or traveling light.
Once you’re rolling, you’ll follow a coastal route out of Puerto Vallarta, then veer off toward Punta de Mita. Keep your eyes peeled—just before you arrive, you’ll spot a big sign letting you know paradise is just around the corner!
